A councillor that drives a taxi, but also voted on taxi fares and fees?

Perhaps Mr Andy P of 202020 could advise us?

I was of that opinion to Steveo, but I'm very grateful for this e-mail info@taxi-driver.co.uk got the other day, which perhaps puts a little light on the state of the Brighton and Hove trade.

For the record the gent who sent it in, requested that his ID be kept anon, but the facts are there for all to see.

In June 2003 Councillor Ted Kemble asked the Standards Committee to allow him to speak on transport matters.

The minutes of that meeting show that as he is a working taxi driver, he would have had a personal interest, and the request was refused.
http://peace.brighton-hove.gov.uk/Intra ... 20Mins.doc

A letter from an Argus reader, received a reply from Councillor Kemble saying that he wouldn't have anything to do with taxi fares, and the like.

Letter from Argus reader,

Reply from Councillor Kemble,

It would seem that Councillor Kemble didn't keep to his word, and has breached the 'code of conduct'.

According to the minutes of the Licensing Committee held on the 24/08/2004, Councillor Kemble (standing in for Councillor Theobald) took part in a meeting concerning the review of taxi vehicle license cost's, and a review of the taxi fare formula.

According to those minutes at no time did he declare an interest, or leave the room whilst discussions took place.

Those minutes were confirmed on the 07/10/2004.

As I said in another post, he votes on fares and fees.

Perhaps he should get the PH trade to vote on taxi fees.

Why didn't the other councillors or officials ask him to leave the meeting?

I think they have got questions to answer as well.
