what do i do to become a taxi driver, i would start off working for companies part time.
i'm 22 and had my lisence for 3 years, but lost it and just got it back 6 months ago, i wasn't band for any time i just had to sit my test again because i got 6 points in first two years. now my lisence is clean but still have the convictions. can i get a taxi lisence?

If you want to waste three years of your life driving around London unpaid on a moped and drive an over-priced pile of rubbish for the rest of your life, then a the London black cab trade is for you.

If however you want a decent life, driving proper vehicles, then give the London PH trade a go. :wink:

Depends if he wants to earn £60k, be self employed, drive a Taxi, work your own hours, wear your own clothes, or alternativley be a wannabe all his life.

I've seen too many cabbies in London in the summer inappropriately dressed considering the corporate customers they carry in the back of their expensive cabs. Picture the scene. Cabby with his phone glued to his lughole. Shorts revealing those elegant hairy legs and a pair of sandals that have seen better days. A T-shirt he'd worn earlier when painting the ceilings and just couldn't be bothered to change because he thinks splodges of red and white look attractive. He leaves his thirty thousand pound plus cab looking the business locked outside a multi million pound office of a corporate client. He walks in and the first words out of his mouth to the receptionist is, " Scuse me love, or mate, can I use the bog only I've drunk too much tea with the lads and I'm dying for a p***”

So do you think it's right that people should be earning 60k in a service industry yet be allowed to dress like tramps?

Personally, I agree with Bernie May:

Each LA takes their own view on these kinds of things, so you should contact your local council's licensing department and ask for their guidance. Local taxi firms should also be able to help.

If you live anywhere near Mansfield or Sefton you should be OK, because they will license anything. Otherwise it's best you contact your local council.

i live just outside edinburgh my local council is midlothian but i would work in edinburgh. i found this site on another taxi forum someone made a post saying it was not a good forum and recommeded this one also what sort of money can i make working part time? i would get my own taxi, but i think starting off part time is the way to go. thanks for your help.

How long is a piece of string? You'll earn a reasonable crust if you work weekends and nights, but it's not easy to tell from outside the Edinburgh trade. I don't think it's that easy to get a black cab driver's badge in Edinburgh, but it's easier to get a private hire driver's badge, so that would be where to start, or at least that's what I can work out from reading the Fastblacks forum - that would also be a good place to ask, but if you say you are considering private hire then they won't give you a good reception. I would try asking the private hire firms in Edinburgh and the council there for the information you need.

Scuffy as f*. wot a lovely image they give to this city.

I thought B&H council was always going on about how professional the trade was there? But I suppose that with the T&G-supported monopoly on access to the rail station then the drivers don't have to worry about quality.

I see nothing wrong in a casual shirt, shoes and smart jeans or trousers. The 'polyester suit brigade' seems very 'have a nice day' false smile, etc. He got one thing right though, the 'expensive cab' part.

Yes, but that's a personal viewpoint about how you think taxi drivers should be dressed. I mean, if the market was truly competitive, you would never get away with that standard of dress, surely?
