Post subject:  New user please help!!!

After a recent High St enhancement which was completed over a year ago we ( Hackney Taxi drivers) have been left in puzzlement by LA,Highways and Town council. So i am hoping with all of the knowledge on here you can point us in the right direction? I have various points so will number them.

1.. We have 9 taxi rank spaces but according to Parking Attendants only 4 are on the plans even though there is signage and markings for 7 and road markings for the other two. So when a normal car parks on our rank they refuse to book them?? So where can i find the truth/plans.

2..With the above problem we have been waiting around the town in various places for available spaces (roughly 70 licensed Taxis for 4 legal rank stands) in most cases on single yellow lines waiting to be moved or parking in available free car parking spaces. Suddenly after a week of arguments with PA and Police the council turn up with new signage in an instant to curtail this, but cant authorise the signage for our 2 spaces up the road !!

3..What are the rules on holding ranks and queing??

If possible we would like input on who can help us,the laws, how to contact them and your general opinions
Many Thanks
Pudding ( a disgruntled cabbie )

I would have thought thaqt the first port of call is the council highways department who are in charge of road markings and parking bays etc they should be able to tell you the correct number

If you're getting conflicting information like this then have you tried contacting the local press?

They often like 'council confusion' stories like this, and by the same token it helps the councils get their act together.
