| Post subject: | Rent To Buy/Settle Buy Insurance Issue |
Hi All, I decided to Rent to Buy a PH vehicle and I subsequently received a contract (of sorts). The 'weasel' I am buying the car from has a few lads currently Renting to Buy and the rest of his cars are Settle. However, all of the cars have been put on a Fleet Insurance Policy with the 'weasel' as the policyholder. If I have a contract and receipts to show I am making payments to purchase the vehicle and I have statements showing my 'Insurance Payments' so.....my question is...Should it have been included on a Fleet Policy ? And....I am buying the car and pay for its insurance but I am not named as the policyholder so therefore I will have no say whatsoever if I am involved in an accident. Has anyone else been in this situation ? How can I get the legalities of this clarified ? Any advice appreciated |

The car is in the name of the seller until such times he decides to change it to you, which I suspect will be when you finish paying for it. Until then, he, as the license holder, has a duty to insure it. |

Interesting that you say that you have a contract to say that you are making payments for the purchase of the vehicle. Does the person that you are paying have a license to provide credit? |

Have you spoken to anyone who has completed a 'Hire to Buy' with this Operator? As you will be spending a very large sum of money, possibly 30, or even 40, thousand £'s before the Contract is completed. It would make sense to spend a couple of Hundred £'s and get a lawyer to check the Contract for you. |

If your paying out more than £100 per week go and buy your own car, at least you will know its yours, what if you get the sack you will have paid for nothing |

grandad: - Do you believe in Fairies as well? I would reckon that that is part of the Plan: Get someone to pay Rent+ for as long as you can and then sack him for a Gross Misdemeanour of some kind. There'll be nothing that he can do. |
