We had a driver last night pulled up by the law for not wearing his seat belt, they've hit him with a £60 fine. He's a HC driver as well so I'm assuming he's had a copper who knows f**k all.

The exemption isn't absolute. What were the circumstances?

Passengers aboard?
Available for hire?
Going to Tescos for his fags?

What did he say to the cops when they stopped him?

We have a ongoing issue with a police sergeant who asked for insurance details from one of my drivers and claims he is not insured on a any driver policy as he is not named on the certificate ,I asked him if he is named on the police car certificate he was driving He told me not to be so stupid as there are hundreds of police drivers . I told the same apply's with us, the council are happy ,but he is not.

It isn't for you to prove your innocence, if he thinks your illegal, then tell him your happy to attend court and will be counter claiming for your time and also writing to the IPCC.

Write to the chief inspector politely pointing out if this is the best way for the police to build a strong relationship with their eyes and ears on the road!

If he was working he doesn't need his belt on. The act is on here somewhere.

Why not just belt up anyway if they were travelling Empty...Its in their own interest to wear a seat belt.

Not always I picked a chap up the other week who had been in a bad RTA (Van pulled out of a sliproad of the A1 without looking) he was pulled out of the wreckage by the fire brigade and ambulance and was told by the ambulance crew that if he had of been wearing his seat belt he would be dead not wearing it at the time of the accident saved his life I personally never wear mine when driving around town but always if I am going long distance

This is a problem here many police officers don't know the seat belt law in relation to cabbies

I had this years ago, a cop who had a rookie with him wanted to spank me, he didn't know licensing law either, he knew the law law and really didn't like it when I educated him and asked him to give me a ticket if he was that confident I was wrong and he was right, had the right look in his eye of I'm avin this one as well, what you call the dangerous cop tbh, one who acts on a guess.

It's all been sorted out with the Police, they have told me to tell the drivers to fill in the back of the form to say they want the case to be heard at Court......the Magistrates will then rescind the ticket. The Police were very apologetic indeed towards the drivers.
