LIMO SAFETY
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service recently demonstrated the length of time it would take to rescue limousine passengers by cutting the roof off a Hummer Limousine previously impounded by VOSA. The firemen used heavy duty cutting gear to show how they would have to rescue trapped people in the event of a road accident.

This demonstration supported VOSA and the police’s campaign to warn of the dangers of using unlicensed limos. Limousines without the appropriate licensing often lack necessary safety features – such as emergency exits – vital to the wellbeing of their passengers in case of an accident.

Watch manager Nick Burge, from the London Fire Brigade, commented on the opportunity to hone and improve vehicle rescue skills: “It’s extremely unusual to have the opportunity to cut up limos and Hummers. This will be a great chance for us to practice our life-saving rescue skills as these cars present different challenges than normal-sized cars.”

VOSA’s Head of Enforcement, Neil Barlow said “This re-enforces the clear message to operators that illegal vehicles will be seized and disposed of. It also graphically shows the general public that an illegal limo is potentially an unsafe limo.”

I picked up one of the firemen who was there and he said the things are built like tanks ,he always thought they were a safty risk ,but after the exercise they all changed there opinions.

Ever seen one trying the VOSA British Standard turning circle???????? If they fail, they go for the chop, literally these days. :D

I'd never travel in one unless it has a psv disc or a ph plate!

All the vehicles that have been COIFed pass the turning circle. Even the ones that were COIFed by the dynamic duo from Manchester whose vehicles are being taken off the road because of incorrectly marked windows.

Oh, did VOSA miss the glass markings when they issued the COIF or was it the dynamic duo changing the glass afterwards? lol.

The moral is, even if you run a legit limo, keep it that way as you are a magnet for VOSA and the BiB.

The glass that is in the limos when they come over is perfectly correct but it does not have the correct markings on. So the people that carry out the work for the coif are supposed to remove all the perfectly good windows and replace them with "E" marked glass. Now allegedly the dynamic duo from Manchester that were doing these conversions bought themselves an etching kit and put their own markings on the glass. This practice only came to light fairly recently when someone at VOSA actually checked the numbers on the windows, I am told that they had a tip off from someone. The etched numbers did not match anything that had been passed by whoever passes these things.
So even though there is nothing wrong with the glass, the vehicles are being taken off the road. Now I don't know why, other than cost, that the dynamic duo decided to try and outwit the boys from VOSA but they don't seem to be anywhere around now. There are many operators that would like to bump into them down a dark alley. :wink:
