Post subject:  Various questions

Hi all,

Got some questions, all help appreciated:

1. Can a HC (licenced outside London) use bus lanes within London?
2. Does a HC vehicle (mercedes saloon) need to have the taxi sign on roof whilst POB?
3. Does a HC driver licence grant a holder the right to advertise his personal mobile number (for bookings)?
4. Can a HC driver work for a PH firm or does he need to hold a PH licence as well?

Cheers!

1 Yes
2 Yes
3 No
4 Yes, with an HC vehicle. PH or dual Driver licence required for PH

Thanks.

So HCs can't advertise their contact details, but on my firm they keep carding up firm's customers.

Looks like I will need a PHO licence to be able to advertise myself online, etc.

Thanks again.

That would get you binned from any circuit around here.

Only if you're driving a PH. Not required for a HC

I don't quite get that one, I thought you said that HCs can't advertise their service as a PHO can.

Another Q. If I have a PHO licence, then can I have a meter set to my tariff or do I have to work of either a price chart or meter set to council's tariff for HC?

An HC driver licence only grants the right to drive an HC, licensed by the same authority.

I don't think that you can use a mobile number in advertising regardless of whether you are Hackney or PH.

Does it say that in your conditions of licence? If there is no actual stipulation, then it's fine IMHO
. PH is a different matter, they need to have a base where bookings are taken over the landline number, then again nothing seems to stop all PHO to receive email enquiries and they are then transfered inti bookings. It's a matter of whether HC can or can't advertise his service to companies and public via media ads & online and provide his personal contact details.

Yes.

In most cases yes, but a hackney can operate with no signs and just a plate on display inside the car.

Hackney carriages play no part in English and Welsh operating proceedures, so yes.

A HC driver driving a HC can work on a PH circuit with no extra licenses required.

You could always put your questions to your licensing officer and get the answer for your area.
