A lot of hacks, and Private Hire Vehicles in the East Riding have the name on the door and a mobile telephone number, surely this is wrong, I thought it had to be a landline office number

Vodafone can issue a mobile with its own landline number...

we cant use a mobile "for the purpose of soliciting a booking", but for a chat, or cancellation its fine

Hacks don't need (in England and Wales) anything to do with an operator's license, and any operating rules that apply to PH don't apply to hackneys.

As for PH booking numbers, is there a national law that says mobile numbers can't be advertised, cos if there is I've never seen it?

That said all this will become academic when the Law Commission publish their new act, as then all current operating procedures will be out of the window.

Thank you, all I was thinking was, if a mobile number is advertised, a punter could ring the number, be talking to the driver who would take the booking then take the punter and it would be legal as the job was pre booked.

Drivers here had to remove mobile numbers from their Hackneys a few years ago.
