| Post subject: | Licence transfer to a new vehicle |
Hi guys I have just bought a new car to replace my existing one. I asked the licencing team (Breckland Council) if I could transfer my licence to my new vehicle. They said that due to legislation they could no longer do that and I would have to apply from scratch for a new licence with a different number. Can anyone tell me if this is the case elsewhere, or are my council just being bloody awkward. Cheers, Paul. |

I think the council are saying they only license vehicles for a year, if they transferred your existing license then that license would last only until the old one ran out and/or they don't want to give you a refund on what's left on the old license. I think you need to just hand in your old license, and renew afresh requesting the old number. |

I just had to go down and get the new one tested and pay the testing fee and plate and my number stayed the same, only time it changed was 1994 when for some reason everyone had to get new plate numbes so i went from taxi NO.71 to Taxi NO.65 and now i am PH NO.11, but your plate number should stay the same, |

I'd have thought that a simple "Change of Vehicle" fee would have applied. That's how it works around here, you pay a fee then you continue with the same Licence/Plate until its normal expiry date comes around.. |
