Hi all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as I am totally lost on where to turn.

I have been invited to an interview for a role within Taxi Licensing. I have been given a handful of questions to complete and bring with me on my attendance. I've managed to answer everyone, except this:

[Q] Summarise the key legislation governing taxi drivers and vehicles and private hire drivers and vehicles.

Could some kind soul please direct me on any publications regarding relevant legislation?

Much appreciated :)

Thats easy to answer, taxi drivers are the good guys who are allowed to pick up from anywhere
Private hire drivers and only allowed to pick up pre booked punters, and mainly drive shed saloons

Skips wrong, Taxis are used only when the passenger forgets to book a PH in advance.

hes even MORE wrong than that

a Pre-booked PH can pick up anywhere, anytime

a "taxi" can only take a flagdown in its own LA (Licensing Area/Authority)

youd think Skippy would know this

The main forms of legislation outside London are currently the Local Government Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1976 & The Town Police Clauses Act 1847 - there are numerous other acts which concern taxis ranging from 1847 to the current date - too many to go through.

You should read through the Law Commission documents on the subject as they will give a brief glimpse!

Those licensed under the 1847 act can ply in their manor, those licensed under the 1847 act and the 1976 act can take or receive bookings from anywhere.
