Post subject:  BTEC - Newbie Question

Hi , I've had a shufty through the forums on here , and cant find anything about Btec [ level2 taxi] training courses .

I'm starting one Tomorrow [ Monday 16/9/13] here in Mid Sussex , funded by the Job Centre , leading [probably] to a job with Road Runners ...

Has anyone here any experience of these courses and job oppurtunities coming from them ? ..

I've a bit of experience driving for a local taxi firm , Ok - it was 20 odd years back & part time !

Many thanks in advance
Brian

A good friend of mine did something similar to you and now works on Five Star.

So get your license and ring around.

Thanks Mr Sussex ....

It was Five Star that I worked part time for wayyy back , and I've known Pete for more years than either of us would care to remember ! ..
It certainly would be an option [ where's the chin stroking smiley ?]

Interesting first day on the course , before it started I had to sign on in the same building [ I've been on the jam roll for a few weeks ] to be told that I still needed to apply for 28 jobs in the next fortnight - the duration of the course , even though there is a garunteed job at the end of it ...

Now for some sums
There are 15 people on the course - if they have to do the same thing [ apply for 28 jobs]
That will be 420 job applications , from people mainly in their 50s with little chance of even an interview .
Whilst being told they have a job at the end of the course !

Oh Boy , I'm glad i'm not a job interviewer ....

more updates as the course progresses

When I did a course on welding, we welded, when i did a course on electrics we did wiring and stuff

so then, when does the TAXI DRIVING course move onto driving a car (i.e. practical not theory)

I suppose the driving bit and the medical bit costs money, so maybe it's best done that way just in case the trade ain't for you.

But I was surprised when my mate told me that's the way it went.

But then I shouldn't be surprised what happens up in yokel Mid Sussex.

Part of the driving test here on Romney Marsh is the question "can you make a U turn?" Usual reply "no, but I can make one cry"...
