In our town there are around 70 licensed Hackney vehicles. We have 3 enforcement officers.
How many do you have in your area and how many cars?

About 600 taxis, 500 PH.

Three full-time, couple of part-time.

And twenty levels of management.

Not wishing to be seen to be pedantic but!

I feel that we are falling into the trap of just looking at taxi vehicle numbers, when we should be concentrating on seats available.

For example in our neck of the woods they increased taxi licenses by an additional 500, with the stipulation that you could have a free plate providing it was a WAV. Let us say out of that 300 bought 7 seaters, amounting to 2100 seats, this would be equal to an additional 525 saloons on the road, not the 300 depicted.

The reason I am mentioning the above is that figures given on here would/could be unintentionally be distorted from area to area.

Area (1) might have as taxis 500 saloons equaling 2000 seats, Area (2) might have an out and out WAV policy, their 500 taxis could seat 3500, this being the equivalent of 875 saloons.

As far as I am aware enforcement officers check the vehicle not the number of seats. I am interested in the number of vehicles or plates issued if you like compared to the number of inspectors.

And that, with respect CJ1, is the only sensible way of thinking about it.

By the way, 367 Hackney, about 800 PHV, 3 Licensing Officers, 2 managers, not sure on admin support - but 3 or 4 at least.
