How would this be in a legal sense.

Say 4 passengers get into your vehicle and they all get dropped off at different points. Prior to getting out they hand their share of the fare to the one who will be last out.

The last one has all of the money to pay decides, to do a runner.

My Question.

If one of the addresses of the previous were noted, would you/I be entitled to go to that person claiming that no payment had been made, asking/requesting the fare in total, on the basis that they were all "Jointly and severally" responsible for the payment of the fare?

I'd say they'd paid in good faith, expecting the last passenger to hand over the cash - they'd not tried to avoid payment.
However I'd expect one of the previous drop-offs to either make good the payment, give the address of the runner, or expect a visit from the police to ascertain the identity and location of the runner.

None of them paid you.

They all got in the car, and none of them met their contractual duty to pay for the service they received, they all committed a crime.

Now they could avail themselves of that by paying you in full and claiming the money back off the runner, or give the police the details.
