A hack only circuit can have a control room outside the licensing area that plates the hacks....

There is no need for taxis to have anything to do with the operator provisions in the 1976 act.

So the office can be anywhere, and other than planning issues the local council has no powers to do anything, nor inspect anything.

That said, more than one Taxi Circuit choose to licence (in the same way as a PH outfit), and choose to abide by the conditions set.

what licence though if there isnt one?

rents across our border are 25% less than within the LA...why spend what we dont need to on office space?

I Did say "So if there is no licence, they can't revoke the licence". I suppose you missed that.

In Plymouth the biggest Taxi Operator certainly used to licence themselves - since they bought a PH Company up (which they obviously Licence) I don't know if they still do.

I am also aware of other Taxi circuits which do the same in the South West.

We used to have an operator's licence years ago. When we had a change of committee, I put them right and suggested they speak to the council. The council agreed they could not force a 100% hack firm to have an operator's licence.

The amusing post-script is that at a recent hack assoc meeting, one of the former committee, who left under a cloud, tried to suggest that as the council had insisted his new company have a licence, our company should have one. He shut up and went bright red when I reminded him that his firm was mixed HC/PHV!!!! How we laughed!!! :D

what licence would a LA sell a hack only circuit? and yet again, what if it was outside the LA...

There is no license required to run a hackney only office even if it is based outside your area.

Just the licence for the vehicle and the driver (unless he had other business interests outside the wonderful world of taxi / ph)
