Post subject:  DBS/CRB Check.

Hi all, long time no posts due to being out of it for a while, but now seriously thinking of coming back.
The question is, do I have to do the DBS check through the licensing council, or can I apply for it personally?
Being the longest part of the process, I would like to get the ball rolling as soon as, then do the rest of the process as and when I can do it, being in a job that involves being away all week makes it hard to sort some of it out whilst in full time employment.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Through the council.

you put the DBS form into the council who will supply you the forms BUT, it comes back to you alone

you let the council see it

if you pay the £19 a year you then get online access which you give to the council who can check for "updates" so, in THEORY, you never need another DBS check

Where do you get the £19.00 per year from? I am sure I am only paying £13.00 per year.

So, what is the score if you already have a recent DBS certificate and paying the the £13 a year, would they expect you to apply for something you already have?

You provide the Council with the certificate number and they can check it online.

So I can apply for it personally, rather than through the council then, reason why I ask is they want you to list every conviction you have had on the application form, in my case first being 33 years ago and a few after, last being 92, all motoring offences and expect me to remember them all, and from speaking to a friend who has already got a licence was told he nearly didn't get his licence due to missing a conviction from 1976!!

no, only "authorised bodies" can issue the forms

if you want a police check they are £10 and take 2 weeks but TBH. you dont need to know every detail of every/any conviction, theres no "missed" item problems

No, you just give them access to your online details.

The applicant keeps the DBS certificate and produces it once, then gives "whoever" (LA, etc, the online access

my LA seems unable to confirm the process and will want a full DBS each year if im any judge

Then make a formal complaint to them, and if that's rejected complain to the Ombudsman.

I have been told that with the passport office in Liverpool having such a backlog of people waiting that staff from the dbs/crb office have been moved across to help clear the mess up......this just moves one problem to another place.
