A driver hiring a car HC/PH is not classed as self drive hire?

Well we are all either employed or self employed, our bossman reckons renting cars out absolves him of any issues over this, making all renters, therefore, self-employed though named on his insurance (unless he has "any driver", he does have about 30 cars), I cant see how it ISNT self drive hire, also, an invoice should be raised so the "self employed" can account for the monies paid out, leaving a paper trail if HMRC come looking

Ask for a VAT receipt. With over 30 cars he must be into the VAT bracket. Get yourself registered and claim it back

Why would you register for vat? you would then need to charge 20% on all fairs or swallow 20%

No because that wouldn't be classed as vat receipt, a vat invoice should show the charge before vat and then the vat amount and total along with the company's vat number on it.

You don't have to give a vat receiept to someone/or business that isn't vat registered. Just a normal one.

not sure thats right, ive never had anything but a full vat reciept/invoice from a vat regd business, if only so the issuing company has the record (they wont keep "plus vat" and "vat inc" pads)

It is right go and look on the HMRC website!!

Yes a company will give you a vat invoice more than likey for there records probably.. but if you are not vat registered (the person gettinge the invoice/raciept) they DONT have to is what am saying! if you where vat registered then they have to by law provide a vat invoice/raciept. basically all it is saying is they don't have to show the vat amount on the invoice. A newsagents doesn't have to give a vat receipt unless asked to.

5.4 VAT Invoices issued by retailers
There is no requirement to issue a VAT invoice for retail supplies to unregistered businesses. As a retailer, you may assume that no VAT invoice is required unless your customer asks for one.

ALL the fuel retailers in our town issue a receipt that is NOT a VAT receipt. you have to ASK for a VAT receipt.

probably because its all done on computer these days and its just easier for them to generate once invoice for everyone! a vat one! that way it covers all bases!

I got a invoice for 2 new tyres the other day with the price total and no vat listed, but they are vat registered.
