I'd say the £1 fee is as a result of hiring the taxi - therefore the driver is charging it - and lawfully the farecard should be accurate - in total fairness, I gave up with Fareham many moons ago

I don't agree with that, the fare is what is on the tariff card and the customer has the option to pay cash, if the customer doesn't then the card company takes it's charge and providing it's charge is the amount to process the payment and no more and all of the money for the process goes to the card company then it's they that are making the charge.

Well that refers to fares charged by the driver not costs for the card company

Is that extra charges for the fare tho, I mean when was that written?

You show the "Model Byelaws", not actual Byelaws. They match exactly the "Model" from the DfT in 2005 if I am not mistaken.

I submit to my esteemed colleagues, that if the driver receives no more than the metered fare, charges made by the Bank for processing the transaction are a matter between the Bank and the purchaser of the service and as such are a separate transaction.

I therefore find it perfectly acceptable.

I also therefore accept Credit/Debit Cards and see nothing myself of the Bank charge levied as a result.
