When did the DBS system replace the old CRB checks? has it been 12 months yet?

yes, it is over 12 months now because I had mine for my badge last year and I have just had my renewal.

I assume you took up the option for £13/year "updates"?

ive not had any answer from my LA on deducting the cost of a DBS after the initial one using updates

Yes, I have signed up for the updates. however I asked our Licensing officer to check my update number and she said that it didn't work. I had used it myself minutes earlier without any problem.

Ive been asking now since JUNE

18/09

Quote:
Thank you for taking the time to contact Lichfield District Council.

We are currently assessing our Taxi processes and have taken your point into account. If this system reduces administration and can save the taxi money it will be considered.

Regards

How could it NOT save money?

anyway, as no DBS check would be needed ever again, they have to remove the fee FOR a DBS from from the charges, they cant charge for one when not doing one

or am i missing something?

Have they got the software needed to access your details? Many Councils haven't purchased it because it's to expensive.

Applicants
How to register

You can register online as soon as you have your application form reference number. You can ask for the number when you apply for your DBS check.

Or you can wait and register with your certificate number when you receive your DBS certificate. If so, you must do so within 19 days of the certificate being issued.

You can view your details online once you’ve registered.

To check the progress of your DBS certificate use the DBS tracking service.

Registration lasts for 1 year and costs £13 per year (payable by debit or credit card only). There’s no charge if you’re a volunteer.

You’ll get an ID number with your registration that you need to log on to the service.
What you get

When you join, you’ll get an online account that lets you:

take your certificate from one job to the next
give employers permission to check your certificate online, and see who has checked it
add or remove a certificate

Read the detailed guidance for applicants.
Employers and other organisations

Employers and other organisations can check someone’s DBS certificate status online and get a result straight away.

There’s no registration process or fee for employers to check a certificate online, but employers must:

be legally entitled to carry out a check
have the worker’s permission

Read the detailed guidance for employers.

Not according to our lot, they need to purchase the software to enable them to access your records. The price of the software is to expensive for some Councils.

Maybe you should forward the post to them which explains how to do it for free.

I've phoned 7 Councils up round this area and they don't look online for the DBS checks for the reasons stated earlier up in the post. The cost of the software is £6-£8,000.
