I am posting on behalf of my partner who is a black taxi driver in London.

In July this year he had one too many and received a caution for drunk and disorderly. He informed TFL immediately and was suspended for one month as punishment for this.

He has since received a letter saying his license has been revoked under medical grounds. Basically he had previous problem with alcohol and anxiety. He was told alcohol issues needed to be stable for 12 months and anxiety for 6 months. This has been under control for 13 months (alcohol) and 7 months (anxiety)- actually longer, but documented by doctor for stated amount of time. I assume that they are doing this because of the incident in July he was under the influence, however that was not related to any prior issues, just a one off mistake. This has been confirmed by our own gp as an isolated incident and he has also written that my partner is fit to work.

Does any one have any advice on if it sounds like we have a case for appeal? Thank you.

I got no legal advice to give you. But i will say that anyone who has multiple cases with regards to convictions relating to alcohol, needs to take a look at the bigger picture and realize that there is actually a drink problem going on.

Time to join sobriety and possibly AA.

Many people do not admit to having a problem. But in actual fact. They do.

I agree. Your partner needs to accept there is a problem and stop drinking completely.
I did this myself 19 years ago. Best decision I ever made :D

Well if hes a london black cab Driver and isnt in the RMT Unite or even the LTDA hes a MUG all of these organisations would of course helped advised and represented their member, given hes SCAB who cares what happens to him, certainly no members of the above organisation's NOR ME :D :D

Advice it might be an idea to stop getting legless getting nicked and in general behaving like a professional Driver/ normal human being #-o not a drunken lout #-o #-o

No doubt he will enjoy being unemployed and becoming a victim of this Governments policy's on people being out of work through their own actions 8)

He should appeal, and he should be in a union/association that would help him out.

He needs proper legal advice from a specialist, and there should be plenty of them in London.

There might be a deadline to his appeal, so I suggest he acts quickly.
