So I got my licence from the council.

Left my job.
First company did not see my licence as they said that they are unable to rent me a car as they need you to be driving as private hire for a year minimum before conditions allow you to rent.

Second company I went to I handed in my licence for photocopy to send to insurance. As well as my badge. Handed in yesterday. Been waiting all day to hear back and was expecting to be driving tonight for a few hours.

Only to be told that my DR10 from 10 years and 3 months is causing an issue and his business insurers are looking into it.

I know. I know. Stupidity. But it is spent. It is not affecting normal insurance any more. But I may be on the dole by the looks of it.

I think I wasted my time and have screwed up big time.

No. If you need to pay a bit more for your insurance cover then so be it.

The firm wants your money, or rent, or % of bag. Nothing will get in their way of that.

It could also be a ploy by the company, knowing how desperate you have made yourself, to screw a bit more out of you by telling you that the insurance provider is insisting on a higher premium when they may not be doing so.

So I went online and I am capable of renting a car from some of the pretty big companies in the UK. All not worried after 5 years is passed on the licence.

I also just contacted another big company just before 6pm and spoke to a well known guy up here who pointed me in the right direction while I was waiting for my badge. He said just come in and I will take a copy of your badge and licence and have you on the road within 24 hours.

Looked at insurance £3341 with covermycab. Just to see and was totally honest. They have sent my docs to sign so this was also not an issue.

I have seriously been pulling my hair out all day. Could not sort anything as I am looking after my lad who is pretty poorly today.

Tomorrow he said he would ring me by 10:30am. If there are any conditions to the weekly payment then I am going to go to EVERY company up here and hand in my licence and badge to copy. First person back to me can have my office bit every week.

Grandad. Is my £280 a week payment THAT important to these guys? Honestly?

Also under the rehab act. After 5 years of conviction. I, supposedly, have to be treated as a nan convicted individual.

Doesn't a DR10 stay on your license for more than 5 years? As for your £280 per week, They want it more than you think.

The DR stays on a licence for 11 years. Insurance companies ask if you have had any convictions in the past 5 years, due to the rehabilitation of offenders act.

The conviction is classed as spent after 5 years and can not be used for totalling up points after ten years. DVLA require you to keep it on your licence for the 11 year period before removal.

ATEOTD though. I was a complete nob all them years ago. Also teetotal and have been for years. That aint gonna help though.

All sorted.

On the road. Autocab caused my head to be fried for my first 4 hours Tuesday.

Got the hang of it in the last hour of that shift.

Then went and worked 7:30pm to 1am (ish) Weds.

I say no more.

Ok. So first time I went out, I was out for 2 hours before I went home with my head fuzzy.

Forgot to turn on the meter. All the way to the destination.

Lost my way to get the meter back on.

Had a drunk from Australia who only said 1 word the whole journey. The word? DISCO.

Took him to every disco in the town. Ended up trying to just get out my cab without paying. Told him I would pop back to number 4 where I picked him up from and get the fare off his wife/girlfriend. He paid me straight away.

Rang the office a million times. They were really helpful and I must admit I appreciated the assistance.

Last night went out for 2 hours and ended up out for just shy of 6, give or take. Hospital work. Doctors, patients, Equipment, Nice long runs from on hospital then drop off and pick up a Doc to take back.

Didn't stop. Really, thoroughly enjoyed the variation of punters.

As for earnings. Well. I would certainly not advise anyone to come into the trade.

I am trying to figure out how to still make ends meet!!!!!!

:cough:
