Our council recently discussed the position regarding 3 year drivers badges. At the moment they have decided to keep this at 1 year but they have looked at some proposals. Our licenses have increased by 25% in 2013 and 2014 and the proposal is already in place for another 25% increase in 2015. According to the link below we are also looking at further 25% increases in 2016 and 2017.

Then challenge it, you know they have to keep separate accounts for drivers licenses.

Tried that last year. I went through the Council complaints procedure and then went to the ombudsman who replied saying that they didn't have the resources to investigate. The Council were supposed to be having another look at the figures this year after I had a meeting last summer and showed them how costings are done in Bournmouth but at yet, I have not heard anything.

Our three year licences are £260 all in. Just over the border in Mansfield it's £150 for three years all in.

It will come out in years to come......"The Ombudsman" is there for big business and is a waste of time for the ordinary person.

They are no more than a buffer designed to wear people down and to stop them getting to the truth.

Ironically a letter has just arrived as I correct this post at 11.35 am.

It is from an MP who I wrote regarding an issue that I had with an Insurance company, at the same time hi lighting the failure of the Ombudsman office to really do their job fairly and properly. I will not name the MP but I will quote a paragraph..........

Quote:
" I note what you say about the failings of the Ombudsman. It is, unfortunately, the case that all too often the Ombudsman does not appear to side with the consumer but with the company. If I am re-elected in May, I will do my best to find a way to raise the issue of the lack of objectivity with the Ombudsman"

Although I fall within his ward my vote is neither here or there to him.....so his letter is not as such a vote catcher for him.

To go back to my point re the Ombudsman; I think it is fair to say that others are finding that the Ombudsman office is not the place to find justice or genuine help.

Put in another freedom of information request, save all details of previous requests and replies.

I think you will find that mansfield were challenged by the trade, and I think they have not had another increase since then, 2006 I think

Yes we challenged them back in late 2005.

They are only allowed to charge the cost of processing a driver's license.

So how can it be 50% more expensive if you leave the renewal to the last seven days before expiry? ](*,)

Ask them for a breakdown of costs for processing a taxi/PH driver's license renewal via a FoI request.

If I pay by cheque on the 7 day limit i get the cheaper rate and the cheque takes 10 days to leave my account
