We all know a car number plate can be made in 10 minutes, so why does my LA want TWO WEEKS to make a hack plate?

Because it's convenient for them. They used to make them here in 5 minutes. Now it needs an authorisation from the pen pushers upstairs which can add anything from another 5 minutes to a couple of days.

Mine was done in 15 minutes which was a pleasant surprise. However the door stickers had more air bubbles in them than my mobile when I let my 5 year old have a go at attaching the screen protector.

Ours take no time at all, once issued, they stay permanently on the vehicle, unless the vehicle is changed, if it is they are put straight onto the new vehicle by the owner.

Don't know why councils need to issue a new plate yearly or stamp expiry dates on them, the council should be up date as to when they are due a test

I have asked our council to review the system based on the number of cars in the Borough being about 80, I suggested that they should know when tests are due and check the vehicles.
I think Nottingham hold the record for producing plates at something like 45 seconds.

Ours used to be the metal ones which like yours, they stayed on the vehicle until they were taken off for a new car.

Nowadays it's more money for MOGO and more money for the Council.

A very good question that you should pose to your council and post on here their answer.

I had the same. Sent off all the docs and cheque 'at least two weeks before expiry to allow time for plates to be produced'. Two weeks later I go to collect plates and find that they are not ready because whoever does them is on holiday, - but if I wait 10 minutes 'we'll do them now for you'. :?
