In Mansfield, last night I went down there on a pick up, I followed a Mansfield Hackney with his top light on round the ring road. We went past the rank where loads of people were stood with their hands out hailing him to stop, he drove right past them and went round the corner to what we call the expensive rank, it's not an official rank just a place were people mingle waiting to be picked up or blag a taxi.
This driver pulled up and still had his top sign on, this woman went to him and asked him if he was booked? He asked her where she was going? She told him and the driver replied with, "I'm booked." She came up to my car and said are you booked? I replied with I am love sorry, what's the matter with him in front? She said he's booked, I said "he isn't booked love he's got his top sign on, I asked her if she told him where she was going? "She said yes I wanted to go up Ladybrook," (minimum fare job) he refused it. I told her to go and ask him if he'd take her to Selston, £25 job he'll bite on that one. I said if he says yes get in and when he sets off tell him you've changed your mind and want to go up Ladybrook instead and not Selston.
She went back to him and he took the bait, in she got and I got the thumbs up from her from the back window. I had to follow him for my peace of mind and yes just round the corner he'd pulled up. I got out and asked him what his problem was, he said she hasn't got any money I want her to get out, I said, if you turf her out I've got your plate number and registration and you'll be reported for cherry picking on Monday morning to the Council, now take her up Ladybrook and be a good boy. He said, "how do you know she's going up Ladybrook?" I just smiled and said, "do your fuckin job right or don't do it at all.
