Was it a hackney or a private hire car? Did they ask the price before the journey? Did they get a receipt? Have they reported it to the Council? If they were not happy with the price going out, why did they book the return? |

Obviously the price is shameful but why did the customer accept the price? Is this the only company that can do wheelchair work? What do the same company charge able bodied customers for the same vehicle? If they charge the same then no offence has been committed but if they charge less then the full force of the law and the licensing department should be on them. We had a similar situation here about 4 years ago where one company were charging a fortune for wheelchair users. Nothing got done about it because the customers would not make an official complaint. I think the Council put them off making a formal complaint by telling them that if they made it formal it would mead going to court and the customers couldn't be bothered with the hassle. |

Grandad wrote: Is this the only company that can do wheelchair work? No there's other companies in the town but these are the ones who are running on stupidly low prices for (Car Work) only. People think they're cheap for the WAV because they're cheap for the car work. Grandad wrote: Obviously the price is shameful but why did the customer accept the price? Like I mentioned above. I agree with the previous posts. If there is a large differential in the price charged for an able bodied person against the £11 for the person in the wheelchair then they may have treated the customer unfairly and be in breach of the Equality Act. |

oK here is a scenario. Lets say you have one wheelchair vehicle on fleet. A job comes in requesting that vehicle type. Your vehicle has to travel miles to get through traffic to get to job as it wasnt anywhere near. In the same way if someone asks for another specific vehicle eg an estate or bus. Would you not charge extra to book a specific vehicle type? There might have been a standard car or any other sort of vehicle a min away from job but in this instance you have had to drag a car from miles away. We had this situation and thats how we explained our pricing to council when asked. We had an extra £5 charge for requesting that vehicle type. |
