I'm sure it's been discussed on here before, but does anyone have a definitive answer or does it depend on individual councils ? We have a driver here that regularly carries his very young son ( 5 or 6 yrs ) in the front of his Hackney whilst working ( at least he uses a child seat though!) my question is, is he insured ? Also, he's licensed to carry 7 but can't because of his son in the front. I can't see this being legal. |

Town Police Clauses Act 1847 59 Penalty for permitting persons to ride without consent of hirer. Any proprietor or driver of any such hackney carriage which is hired who permits or suffers any person to be carried in or upon or about such hackney carriage during such hire, without the express consent of the person hiring the same, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding [F44level 1 on the standard scale]. |

I understand the fella needs to earn, and the kid is safely strapped in, but working cabs are for punters, not child-minding. I'm amazed no one has complained. |
