I was having a think... ref the rental of plated cars (just add fuel) and the "self employed" status of the renter HMRC say that (amongst other rules) to be self employed the person should be risking their own monies and work for more than one customer/source of revenue? If I rented a Hackney i could see how I might comply but if i rented a PH from a base with the car on its own PH ops licence (PDA incuded) and given id only work via that base I couldnt be HMRC compliant could i? |

Yes it will because the net gain to the inland revenue is small compared to the effort required they won't do it unless there was a couple of billion in extra tax to be gained which on the pittance Ph drivers earn in many parts of the country wouldn't happen and the councils and government have a vested interest in keeping the status quo as they could stand to lose substantial revenue through a decrease in numbers of vehicles and donations to political parties from plate barons and uber |

HMRC dropped on a base not far away when the boss upset an O/D, he promptly put his thoughts to HMRC, 1 visit later the jockey's became PAYE drivers the renters dont seem to comprehend that with no receipt for the rent or a decision by HMRC the rules arent being followed, they could be hit for tax on £300/week for 6 back years, 25 if it was deemed deliberate |
