Speaking to a hack driver on a rank....

I asked if he used the meter on local jobs he got from the base...."no, thats private hire"

Most drivers here who have been around a while are convinced that any job taken by phone is private hire and they don't need to use the meter.

Our local license conditions state that the meter MUST be used on all jobs staying within the boundaries) although the driver may charge less, i.e. If it's a private hire job.

So do ours but the drivers still insist they can do as they like.
