Where I work we have a number of councils offering all manor of differing conditions. We have some that allow old cars, and some that will allow only new cars. Some that have drivers who take no knowledge, and some that have drivers with a bloody hard knowledge. I could go on, but you know the scenario.
So how can anyone compete for radio work, when you have some paying a grand for a motor driven by part-time builder, up against the lads who have to buy and run WAVs? Does this lead to fair competition? Or does it lead to firms having to down-grade the standards they have, just to survive?

Sussex I believe that not all punters faced with the choice of a pile of scrap for £2 or a clean modern car and decent driver for £2.50 will choose the £2 option. That is the basis of my business plan. |

That's refreshing to hear. But do customers know the quality of vehicle and driver, when they ring for one? And do the girls and boys at night give a stuff? See this is the problem of set taxi fares, you pay the same for the crap, as you do the good.

No the girls and boys at night don't give a stuff. But I don't give a stuff about them either. If your local market has a strong 'company' set up and not lots of small outfits then you need to create a brand that differentiates you from the rest. The customers need to perceive that company A is different from Company B. Whether it is reliability, quality of vehicle or driver, ease of use, clear charging structure. Any of these that help to make the better punters use you as first choice. |
