| Post subject: | Any insurers that will take driving license less than 2 year |
I've just got knocked back from someone I knew had taxis to rent and a shift going because his insurer refused to insure people who had driving license for less than two years. Is this common? Because I got my license (yesterday) with the council with a one year driving license. (everything else is ok I guess? 25+, no accidents, no criminal record) |

yep.....new badge hard to insure (increased excess at least) but add newish DVLA licence and wow.....gonna be a rough ride |

You could try getting your own vehicle, and insure it that way, depending on your age it will cost an arm and a leg. plus possibly the other arm and leg. |

The phrase beggars can't be choosers doesn't apply here at all, I'm not turning down anything given to me (the insurance refused to add me). A beggar isn't choosing to not buy food, because he has no money in the first place to buy with (can't afford my own taxi) . Unless you just want to laugh at my misfortune and rant about "youngsters these days". |

FFS, yes, you will be the beggar......my insurance is a grand with 7 years NCD, am i moaning? plus i passed my DVLA test over 40 years ago apply to Tesco if you cant get a drive did you ask about a drive BEFORE paying for the badge?......i bet not |

BTW, my son has been promised a drive (rental) for £250/week, hes 23, passed DVLA licence at 17 years old, with a new taxi badge, the base said sometimes his excess is increased for new drivers, he has 30 cars though |

I had asked yes about a cab beforehand yes, I was told get your badge first. Who's going to try add you on the insurance if you haven't even got a badge. how wonderful your son has been promised a cab, as you so clearly say, he's had his driving license for around 5 years, where as I've had mine for 1 year as stated. You may as well have told me that bears [edited by admin] in the woods. |

With respect, My insurance policy is quite clear regarding how long a driver must have held a UK driving licence and a Council badge before they can be added to the policy. So I would suggest that the people that you asked before you applied for your badge either didn't read their policy or lied to you. Can i suggest that you try ringing a few taxi insurance brokers yourself and ask them for a quote. You will then see what you are up against. |

No one is laughing at your misfortune, it's just that a lot of people come in to the trade (or try to) with high expectations and think it's easy money. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but you should have done your own checks with insurance companies first. You may well be better off finding another job in the meantime and trying again when you have had your licence 2years. The way this job is now ( especially after Christmas ) you may well be better paid at tesco's and no, I'm not joking. |
