Question for the legal Eagle,s

Our Licensing have sent Out emails too Local Private Hire operators that the practise of Taking return Bookings from Customers and Calling it in to the office over the radio is not legal and they should call the office landline no.

IE cars picks up legit job customers says can I book the return And the driver call this in over the radio It may not be the same driver that picks up the return.

They have stated they intend to test job this situation and a operator doing this good loose there operators licence

Any test cases would be good

You can take a return booking from your passenger. What happens to those of us one-man operators who don't have an "office" or radio network?

You have an operators licence, most PH drivers haven't.

The 1976 act doesn't define a booking as only doable via the phone.

A pre-booking can be undertaken in a multitude of ways, phone, car radio, app, internet, letter, in person etc.

When taking customers for example to a family event at a posh hotel 10 miles out of town say we are encouraged to ask if they need a return booking as otherwise they might find it difficult to get anyone,if they do want a return booking we insist on the return fare being paid in advance because no driver wants to go out to the middle of nowhere without being sure of getting paid.

That's called good business sense.
