The council is aware of a Facebook group that has been set up by a number of licensed Hackney Carriage drivers.

The council accepts that everybody has a free right to express their views and opinions in a free and open way and this is enshrined in the Human Rights Act that gives individuals the right to freedom of
expression.

To this end, the council does not have any issue with individuals who exercise their right of freedom of expression regardless of whether the particular view expressed is positive or negative.

However, it is also important that views expressed by individuals, particularly in a public forum, must be
factually informed, correct and appropriate.

This is particularly important for licensed drivers because of the requirement for them to be, and remain, fit and proper people.

In light of the above, the council would urge licensed individuals who contribute to public forums to do so in an appropriate manner.

For example, the council does not consider it appropriate for individuals on such forums to refer to or describe officers of the council using inappropriate or insulting terms.

As is the normal approach, the council would strongly recommend that individuals contact the council in the first instance to discuss issues or concerns they may have.

There are opportunities each week for individuals to see a licensing officer, these being Monday & Friday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.

If these dates are not appropriate to discuss issues, please contact the licensing section to arrange to meet with an officer

There is no hiding place on the internet.

What does hurt council officials and councillors is that if they want to take someone to court for being mean and rude to them, they have to use their own money.

And that breaks their hearts. :D

Which Council is getting worried about comments on a public forum, normally if a complaint or comment is taken to licensing officers it is just ignored in the hope no one pursues it.
Can guess there is no enforcement at this Council when you can only contact licensing officers on 3 half-days per week, what are they doing the rest of the week?
