I predict that licensing will be out doing enforcement tonight (they only do it on a bank holiday when they can get triple pay !)
I also predict that they will be stood where all the bars are trying to get into unbooked private hires, completely ignoring the 20 or so illegally ranked hackneys.

I also predict that they will fail in their efforts, in my 14 years cabbing not one PH has been caught doing illegal pick-ups in my area ;
a)Because none do (or very,very few)
b)Because two minutes after licensing start an operation every driver in town knows about it
c)Because when you drop off and someone tries to get in your car you have to wonder why they didn't get into any of the aforementioned 20 illegaly ranked hacks.

I bet I'll hear stories though of how drivers were sent to the depot for a full pit test because they had a blown tailight or dirty vehicle !

I bet they weren't out due to it being a Bank Holiday. They won't get paid extra because they're salaried.

They get a choice of time off in lieu, banked hours or overtime.
Last time I checked it was ;
Normal day any extra hours between 6pm-10pm time and a half, 10pm-8am double time,
All weekends and bank holidays between 8am-10pm double time, 10pm-8am triple time.

It's only any extra time they work after their standard 35 hour week that they get the extra pay/time off for. All work up to 35 hours is normal rates.

They were'nt out last night but there's still 3 days to go, doubt they do Sunday though.

Not all LA's are like this... Ours has a regular chap who works Friday and Saturday nights between 22:00 and 04:00. Not sure about bank holidays. I've certainly seen him out a fair bit. It seems to put a stop to certain activity.
