Post subject:  One Man Band Operator - Advice Please re: APPS

Hello everyone, this is my first posting.

I am a one man band Private Hire Company based in the north of England near Sheffield.

I notice there are a lot of "Apps" that one can sign up for (Uber, Minicabit etc), but are there any in particular that any of you guys have used with any degree of success?

For the record, rightly or wrongly I am especially interested in trying to build up the "long distance" runs ie Airports, to the coast, courier service etc etc.

Any advise would be gratefully received, regards G

There are a lot of charlatans that will tell you they will supply you with loads of work for a price, and they do nothing. So keep away from anyone who promises you the earth.

In respect of apps, I suspect they will want you to do the local work as well as the rest.

If I was you I would invest any spare cash you have got on a top notch website and easy remembered web address.

Am following this chat.
I have not seen any one-man-band apps. Its been a long time since apps have been out, it maybe a not good enough investment for app makers.

I'd like to see a poll on TDO asking this question to see how many people would like such an app.

An app for one man band PH's - who would be the operator?

does it cross a district border?

interesting legalities ahead I think.

Apps are there to make their creators wealthy and not the poor grunt doing the driving, Go knock on doors, advertise and build up your own clientele, it's hard getting going but steady work in the long term, go seek some LA tenders..always steady work.

Apps are ok, just for topping up your income, when you've got nothing to do, or in between bookings.

Uber generally work ok, especially in the Exec and Lux categories, but you shouldn't rely on apps for regular income (though many do on Uber, especially on their standard X service).

Minicabit, I understand, tend to work for operators with a fleet of cars, whereby a job is compared to other operators, which enables the passenger to choose the cheapest (assuming). Unfortunately, they want their cut, and if you're the cheapest, then the driver isn't going to be left with much.

There's another app, called Blacklane, where you bid (downwards) for bookings, though the rates can be laughable, and is only intended for returns when you do a distance job, at least you'll get something coming back, even if the fare covers the cost of fuel.

I've been a one-man-band operator for a while, I'm the licenced driver and the operator licence holder.
