2.0. Medical
2.1. An applicant will be required on initial application and at the request of the Council, to undertake a medical examination to assess their medical fitness to drive as a licensed driver. The examination will be prescribed by the Council, and the period of recall shall be determined by the Medical Officer, appointed by the Council.

It is this departments decision, in conjunction with our appointed medical practitioner, that any Licensed taxi driver, 60 and over, must successfully complete an annual Group II medical.

I know that there are some councils out there that - quite against the law
of the land – insist on three-yearly medicals. If your council still does
this, I suggest you complain to the Ombudsman. The timings as set by
the DVLA (and this is updated at least two or three times a year) are:
initial medical up to the age of 45, then five-yearly between 45 and 65,
then annually thereafter. So if you are coming up to 45 you will need
five medicals in the next 20 years,
