i said it was to my mate, he phoned me last night to say he had a pi$$ed up lass in the car who ( when he drove off) told him she only had £5 , the fare to her hotel (hen night from durham) is £11, he then said , well that's ok i will stop when it hits £5 then, she then played the " you can't dump a lone female in the wilds of wanny , it's illegal & im a council-manager in Durham & i know about duty of care etc & proceeded to blether on about some student carry on they had in Durham & the local taxi drivers have assured them that all students will get home , money or not  ( i cant find this on the internet though) , so you can't", so my question is who is in the right here then? he dumped her anyway & she said she was going to report him ( probably won't as she was pi$$ed) so what i want to know is, does this give "carte blanche" to pi$$ed up lasses to get a taxi without cash to pay for it? , he gave her a right going over mind about how she claimed to be a council manageress but had been drinking for 6 hours & was to stupid to keep her taxi fare?? i think he embarrassed her into not complaining tbh , anyway he is p/h & has her name & phone number & is going to call the council tomorrow & report her  so someone is gonna be in for a shock in the morning  tbh , i would have done exactly the same though.

edit: found it:

Image

you couldn't make it up tbh

why the fook should a taxi driver have to trail to the uni to collect his fare the following day then ? fooking students to pi$$ed to save the money to get a taxi home ffs?? its unreal tbh , i would just ask for the cash up front, if they didn't have it , well ya walking

hate students me like

If you knowingly get in a cab or PH without sufficient funds, or an agreement with the driver to pay later, then it is 100% illegal.

There was also something about if you don't have more than a certain amount of cash on your person then you can be arrested for vagrancy, probably an urban myth.

I don't think that is in the UK. I think it used to be the case in the USA and it still maybe.

like i said that's what i thought, so where does the "vulnerable lone female & duty of care" kick in then ? if she knowingly got in without enough cash ( which she did), & he turfed her out once she said she didn't have enough cash ( which he did) , who would be to blame if anything happened to her is what im asking ? ( which it didn't ) just for future reference, like i posted this could mean any half pi$$ed lass can just jump in a taxi & once set off just say i got no cash or only got a few quid, & we cant do anything ?, you cant just lock the doors & take her to the cop shop, that's false imprisonment

If a passenger pays you part of the fare but not all of it then it is down to you to recover the balance it is not theft and dishonesty is both difficult to prove and impossible to get the police to investigate but if you are in Lincolnshire then making off without paying is also a civil offence as apparently our police are allowed to interpret the law a little differently

I have a notice along with a number of other TAXIS in my vehicle issued by the POLICE in conjunction with the Council that states "Do not get in the TAXI unless you have the means of paying the full fare on completion of the journey otherwise you are committing a CRIMINAL OFFENCE.

Mr T has posted a very good sheet on this a couple of times. I have used it to get the police to act on 2 occasions now.
