I suspect you are putting the vast majority of the PH, and for that matter the taxi, trade to shame.

But well done all the same. =D>

Well done to you but, I do think that drivers should be able to wear whateverthey feel comfortable in, if shirts & ties are your thing well be it, but I believe they belong in the office, not in a car

Best wishes

Our LA is looking at bringing in a uniform type of dress for drivers at the moment.
I dont know where he's stand with all of us being Self Employed. Would a presedent be set and all Ice Cream men be the same (serve the public), shop workers, base staff?

I wear jeans and T/sweat shirt personally but always look smart. The "string vest brigade" could do with a makeover though!

You are definately right there Mr Smiffyz, here in Renfrewshire the LA imposed a strictly defined dress code a few years back which even states what colour of shoes you can wear

We have had drivers receiving warnings for not wearing a tie when he was on a lunch break while sitting in his car, another got told to get the right colour of shoes on or else (he was wearing brown ones instead of black)

The Council here seem to think because they licence you they have the right to run your life, but as you have quite rightly pointed out, we are all self-employed, for heavens sake Renfrewshire Council doesn't even have a dress code policy for it's own employees !

If drivers are going to be ordered what to wear when the go to work just because the council licence them, well this should also apply to window cleaners, street traders, charitable collectors, scrap merchants, ice cream vans, etc.

TAKE A STAND !

I feel the Ombudsman would look very favourably at a complaint made against your council, by someone who has received a warning over such a stupid issue.

I would say that most of the drivers in St Andrews wear ties, and most are reasonably smart even without a tie, but there are a few who wear jeans and trainers.

The bottom line here is that if you want the cream work from the posh hotels then collar and tie is must, but those that don't aren't competing for the cream work.

If you want to earn good money out of LPH, then you have got to run decent motors and dress in style.

If you don't, then go drive a bowler hat.

Taxi-drivers urged to smarten up

Taxi drivers who pick up their clients from train stations are being told to smarten up for work following complaints about their appearances. For the past couple of years, cabbies, who pay a fee to service the county's railway termini have been told they must wear collared shirts on duty.

But now train operator One is making drivers in Great Yarmouth wear smart black trousers and shoes as well, or else face losing the right to work the station. Today, One said the new dress code might be rolled out to include Norwich Station.

While the move has angered some, other drivers are seeing the new regulations as a reasonable request. One spokeswoman Jill Casswell said the new dress code, which came into effect on January 1, was introduced after the station manager was approached by customers who wanted to see taxi drivers more smartly dressed.

“Where the drivers were already required to wear a shirt and collar, this is taking things a step further,” she said. “We think it is a good idea as drivers who are smartly turned out gives a good impression.”

She said a couple of drivers were unhappy about the move, which is also being enforced in Lowestoft. “If they want to use our ranks we want them to follow a special dress code, we're not being unreasonable” she said.

“If they don't comply then they run the risk of having their licence to work at One stations taken away. “There are no plans to introduce these rules in Norwich at the moment, but if it works well elsewhere it could be implemented there too.”

One Norwich black cab driver, who did not want to be named, said One should be worrying about other things and leaving taxi drivers alone. “A taxi driver can work out for himself that dressing well is good for business - we don't have to be told what to do,” said the 38-year-old.

“The fact that the station managers are jumping up and down about drivers' dress code when they are struggling to get people across the country is ludicrous.”

However, Paul Harris, director of Anglia Taxis, whose office is based inside Great Yarmouth station, said he was happy with the new regulations. “If people are coming into town the first people they see are the taxi drivers,” he said. “If they look smart it creates a good impression, which is why we have always wanted our drivers to look presentable. “I know some are not happy with things like the colour only being black, but most people are in favour of the dress code.”

Drivers are allowed to wear tailored shorts in summer under the new rules.

Personally I can't find fault with a view like that.

I wonder why the dress code is considered necessary then?

Answer - you can come out in jeans, t-shirt and trainers, join the queue and you get the work anyway.
