It’s time to ditch the card and dig out the small change, as Manchester is set to be the first city in Europe to accept cash payment for Uber journeys.

The global firm currently only allows users to register a card for rides through its smartphone app. This is then automatically charged at the end of the journey, meaning travellers who prefer to pay with money often end up taking a classic black cab instead.

The Manchester Evening News reports that now it looks like Uber is aiming to expand its customer base by going retro, and offering cash payments as well.

(Now link meters to the PDA and you have the perfect storm...)

Exactly.

They will book, they will get into car, no way on earth will they pay the surge price at the end.

That would mean that the drivers were doing work that had not come through UBER.
