Hi

Anyone know of nay legal precedents for challenge that the Council has been unreasonable in setting fares. They're trying to reduce ours by 18% in Guildford.

Lovely.

Council's don't have to set a rate, and I think a while back, maybe 25 years ago, South Kestevens drivers took the council to court. Before the case got there the council decided to deregulate fares.

Not convinced that's what the drivers wanted.

However you have a Human Right to have a home (Article 8 ) and that home and life needs paying for. By reducing your income they are interfering with that IMO.

The Traffic Commissioner has nothing to do with setting fares for taxis or buses these days. Dunno about Sctoland, but I doubt it. TCs don't have anything to do with taxis unless the operator is applying for a restricted PV licence.

Up in Scotland the TC is the point of any appeals in respect of taxi fares.

not what happened here is the actual events. Discount cabs took a booking from Corby Glen to Irnham (next village) driver put meter on from the edge of grotsville and charged customer from there.Customer complained to council.council took discount cabs to court and ended up with £25k bill after losing. So council decided to deregulate and let companies set their own fares

But in essence all cars on council default tariff because all who tried setting their own rates came a cropper
