Can I shop around for the cheapest medical report, which is a requirement for my LA in order to get a drivers badge, or does it have to be done by my own doctor who I have discovered is the most exspensive ?

Thanks.

I think the rule varies by loc authority, mine insisted that it have to be my own doctor and I had to have been registered there for at least 12 months. yet in the next area to me you can use any doctor. in some areas i looked at i didnt even need a medica due to me holding an hgv licence and being under 45 (already had medical for hgv)

No you can choose any doctor, but your docs will have to be obtained by the doctor checking you out, your doctor will apply a charge for the documents to be handed over, to which can be quite expensive.

I think the general fee which is a national is somewhere around 135 quid at the last count, but have heard stories this has gone up to 150 quid, for what, everybody wants a slice of your money, the actual medical will take what 20 mins, eye sight, pee test, blood pressure, plus go through a check list which your own doctor will know, plus you are paying for his signature, just take your passort photo down ask the doc to sign and confirm on the back of your photo and it will be 25 quid. everyones on the make.

So if you haven't been registered with doctor for 12 months then that disqualifies you from driving a cab?

Sensible :?

i did ask that question and the answer was yes as they could not get a good medical background check if you had only just registered at the doctors as they wouldnt have you medical history, they said to stop people changing doctors to hide past medical issues on their application

Seems unduly inflexible. I mean there are plenty of good reasons to change doctor, what if he retires or dies, for Cliff's sake?

And if you change doctor, don't they just send your old records on to the new ones?

But LAs know best, innit?
