Turning Circle Recommend the removal of this condition on the basis that it cannot be demonstrated unequivocally that it is essential in order to maximise the quality of taxi service provision Sliding Doors Little hard evidence that sliding doors were more dangerous than hinged doors, therefore no condition banning sliding doors. Split Rear Window No compelling argument for prohibiting split rear windows Powered Steps Cab be useful in aiding entry and exit from taxis, but they need to be fully retractable, weather and tamper proof to prevent malfunction Accessing Both Sides Taxis should not be limited to picking up or dropping off from one side of the vehicle only, however they recommend a physical control measure to allow the driver to control which door is opened Distinguishing From PHC Colour is an effective means of identification and they recommend that the entire taxi fleet has one corporate colour. This would mean banning adverts on the exterior of taxis. Condition 46a should be reworded to read "A motor vehicle shall not be deemed to be of a suitable type and in a proper state of repair for use as a private hire car unless it is designed for the carriage of passengers as is not either a good vehicle or a vehicle of a type that is currently or has previously been approved for use as a taxi by the Council (If the above recommendation to ban adverts is not accepted, there are a number of recommendations on how adverts should be dealt with) PHC Records of Hire Recommends that where a PHC company has an automated central booking system, a condition be added that the record held in the office is sufficient, provided that the Cab Inspector approves of the system Taxis and PHC Receipts Recommends that a condition be introduced to require the time and date of the journey, the licence number of the vehicle, the cost of the journey and the signature of the driver. |

They could be doing it via the vehicle/driver conditions of license, in which case in practical terms the record keeping is done by the office they work from. |

So, if cabs in Edinburgh do not need to turn around, how do they get back into the City centre

Lets hope Allied get a strong foothold here, and perhaps the bright sparks that form the GLA will sit up and take notice. If LTI get competition. I wonder if we will benefit from some 'extras' down in the smoke. Time to buy these great receipt printers that I use so often. At least once in every 12 months.
