But you need to declare it on your cab licence and to your insurance.

I was offered one a couple of years ago, but at the age of 66 thought it was a waste of time. It was cheaper to pay the fine and have 3 points. The course was well over £120, plus a day off work, plus the cost of getting there and back. My insurance hasn't gone up because of it.

Why do you need to declare it on your cab licence?

Fixed penalty is £100.

If it goes to court the fine will be a band A fine (half your weekly earnings), plus costs (usually £85), and victim surcharge (either 10% of fine or £20, whichever is higher).

If you earn the average income, currently £440 a week and plead guilty (33% off), your total costs will be £147 fine + £85 + £20 = £252. Plus 3 points.

If you are on benefits or earn £120 a week or below and plead guilty, your total costs will be £40 fine + £85 + £20 = £145. Plus 3 points.

That's a 30 zone? Is there a system of street lights the regulation distance apart? I can jus about see 1 on the left. If not, where are the 30 repeater signs?

Challenge it if you can afford to lose, otherwise the £100 and 3 points.

My advice would be to not challenge it.

Unless of course you are certain you didn't commit the offence.

Or like the female driver who got off claim you were fearing for your safety from the advances of a passenger.

the exact spot isnt stated, seems the whole mile or so of the road IS 30mph with houses at each end

If it is then it isn't correctly marked (no repeater signs)
