TRAFFORD COUNCIL ALLOCATION OF HACKNEY CARRIAGE PROPRIETOR’S LICENCE

The Council currently limits the number of hackney carriage vehicle licences it issues to 143. A vehicle licence returns to the Council on the death of the holder or if the holder fails to renew the licence. Notice is hereby given that a hackney carriage vehicle licence has become available and the Council intends to allocate the licence.

The licence will be allocated based on a points system. The person allocated a licence will be required to agree to the following:

• the vehicle must meet the Council’s hackney carriage vehicle specification and be either a London Taxi, Mercedes Vito Taxi, Ford ProCab, Peugeot E7 Taxi or any other vehicle approved by the Council;

• the vehicle must be presented within the time indicated on their application form from the date the licence is allocated;

• the vehicle licence will not be sold or transferred for a period of three years from first issue.

If you are interested in being considered for the grant of a hackney carriage vehicle licence please email licensing@trafford.gov.uk requesting an application form. You may also write requesting the same to the Licensing Section, Trafford Council, Talbot Road, Stretford, M32 OTH. Applications must be received by 5.00 pm on 25th July 2019.

Are they saying that as a statement of the law? Surely plate can be sold by the deceased's estate. To require it to be surrendered to the council on death illegal?

I agree.

The plate is attached to a vehicle, and that vehicle can be passed on to anyone.

Anyone can add their loved ones to their vehicle license, then the council can't do anything should death occur.

The plate is attached to a vehicle, and that vehicle can be passed on to anyone.

Anyone can add their loved ones to their vehicle license, then the council can't do anything should death occur.



Plate does not become part of deceased estate as to transfer plate to a new proprietor the existing proprietor has to sign the transfer papers,he/she cannot do this if they are dead.
It is vitally important that people take heed of this and always have at least one family member on the license as a part proprietor.

My wife is joint proprietor on mine. Should I fall off the perch she then has a plated vehicle to sell on.

You would have to be pretty stupid not to.

our council changes your plate number when you change vehicle and insists that the plate is theirs but there would be no point selling the plate as we are unrestricted.

You can of course sell the vehicle and pay a nice hefty fee for transferring the plate to a new owner

The plate may be theirs but the license is not that is why you can renew it every year.
