Is this waiting time for when you are waiting for the customer who is late or for when you are held up in traffic?

So after 10 mins of waiting the meter will jump £3.

How much grief is that going to cause? #-o

Both, potentially, I would assume. But, of course, when you're entitled to start the meter while waiting for a customer is always a tricky one 8-[

As I said in the News thread  it's a bit daft and untypical to wait until ten minutes has elapsed until the meter ticks up, and then each ten minutes thereafter.

But I hadn't really thought of it in terms of the meter suddenly showing such a jump - crazy.

Suspect someone somewhere just trying to make this a bit different from the flock, but not really thinking through the implications. Unless, of course, they're just trying to make trouble.

But introducing waiting time in the first place was always likely to cause confusion and conflict, but ten minute increments?

They should have stuck to their initial plan of five minutes, but even that's ridiculously long at a £1.25 jump (the ten minute increment will be £2.50, I think).

Had a look at about a dozen tariff cards earlier.

Shortest tick-up I could find was 22 seconds (in York, although it's only 10p increments), and the longest one minute, so ten minutes is off the scale. And most seem to be about 40-50 seconds or so.

As for the actual charges, £15 to £20 per hour seems fairly typical. Aberdeen and Edinburgh about £23 or £24 per hour, which seems to be the higher end of the scale.

So although Lichfield's proposed charge of £15/hour is actually on the cheap side, the £2.50/ten minute increments are ludicrous, and a recipe for conflict, in my opinion [-(

(All the above refers to T1 increments.)

(Edited to exclude earlier incorrect claim about waiting time in Brighton & Hove - see post below.)

Brighton is £30/hour - no wonder there's so much talk there about the meter racking up in congested traffic due to the changes at the station, not to mention the obvious scope for competition from Uber

Only in a multi-seater.

£20 an hour in a saloon.

Ah, yes, misread the tariff card  - think it's the way the figures just above the top of the Tariff 6/7/8/9/10 columns look as if they're part of those columns rather than the columns above - there should really be a gap in the table between the Tariff 6/7/8/9/10 text at the top of the columns and the figures above [-(

Of course, it all makes sense when you spend a bit of time looking at it, but when trying to skim read a complex tariff card like Brighton's...

In fact, was about to say earlier that this under T1 nicely sums up the B&H card:

Brighton and Hove tariff card wrote:
Tariff 1
Normal Fare

Applies to all
hirings except those
mentioned in tariffs 2,
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10

Indeed.

It's the normal fare unless it's not the normal fare.
