If a LA pass new (higher) meter rates, is a hackney obliged to have the meter updated?

I have one only doing schools, or prebooked out of area (i.e. big) jobs

The LA have said we must update meters "as soon as possible".......wishy washee

Your meter must be calibrated to the current rate.

If at all times it is at a lower rate than the Tariff set, it is probably OK.

But doesn't the meter have to display the correct fare?

The fare on the meter must match the Council set rate as on the TARIFF TABLE that has to be on display in the vehicle, you may have an additional Tariff on the meter as long as it is less than the Council set rate, you are not allowed a higher rate under any circumstances.

But you are allowed a lower one.

Yes,but the current Council agreed Tariff must be on the meter also, the Tariff table on display in the vehicle must also have the current agreed Tariff on it.
