At long last, after I started a campaign nearly 6 years ago, our Council have finally removed the need to carry a fire extinguisher in Hackney and private hire vehicles.

Are there that many councils who still insist on them?

I had this sort of conversation with Shepway afew years ago when I go a hybrid car. did I need one for petrol fires or electrical fires? They couldn't answer the question. and how was I to know if the fire was electrical at 600 volts or electrical at 12 volts? There's virtually no room for one extinguisher let alone two.

And that was the advice of the local fire brigade, run away! Call us don't worry trying to put it out yourself.

The best advice if any vehicle catches fire is to take steps, bloody great big ones in the opposite direction!

Get punters out, run, then watch and warm your hands.
