Another interesting thing I noticed in PHTM this month was a table of UK Airport drop off and pick up charges.

Think I'm lucky that most of my airport drop offs are at Gatwick and Heathrow who charge £0.

Exactly, but how long will that last?

Especially when they want to claw back lost revenue.

The 'should use public transport' argument will allow them to win the day.

I don't think Heathrow ever will, maybe a tad naive but I think the London trade will ensure all hell broke loose should it ever happen.

Gatwick maybe, but so many cars drop there the queue at any barrier would go back to the motorway.

I can recall reading somewhere that it is was cheaper to park a commercial passenger jet for 24 hours at Edinburgh airport than it is to park a car.

We are a cash cow, it's all we are good for as far as the airports are concerned.

there was a proposed private members bill two years ago which proposed making airport drop off charges mandatory. Don't think it even got a reading but there is the political will to bring it in

Asking really nicely, so as not to offend, but why would it be necessary to make drop off charges “ mandatory?”

I think this MP represented the constituency that includes Stansted Airport so probably more than a bit of self interest

basically he was proposing a bill which would require all airports to charge a minimum of £3.00 drop off charges. he was interviewed on radio 5 live and his argument was that it was unfair that Heathrow and Gatwick didn't charge!

As a deterrent to people taking their cars to the airport.

Yet more tree hugging nonsense.

Just a form of congestion charge, essentially. Or very similar, at least.

And possibly to deter people from flying as well, so very similar in principle.

I think the emphasis was more on eroding Heathrows' competitive advantages than tree hugging.

Took two hours for a non EU fella to come through T2 on Saturday.

£16.50 parking. Thankfully it was him that paid it.

Oh dear Sussex. And then Gatwick whacked you for a fiver.

I could say 'I told you so' but......

I think it's quite shameful that Gatwick now charge, but it will be the punters that pay.

Biggest problem now is with airport pick ups. Mates of mine have been waiting up to 4/5 hours for folks to get through border control.

I may give up on Airport runs in the future, they were getting more problematic and collection waiting times longer even before Covid and Brexit....and seeing as it was 60 miles to Either Newcastle or Edinburgh airports I would have to arrive their on the assumption that they would come through on time....but mostly that never happened.

Drop off....easy peasy.

We had one driver wait 4 and 3/4 hours last weekend for a passenger who had demanded we should be there when the plane landed as he 'would be straight off, with no luggage'. We decided £100 was a reasonable waiting time charge.

It is difficult for sure. But I am just delighted to 'get a run'.
