Might have done things different if I'd known how lockdown would turn out, but never went ahead with Deliveroo.

But renewed my insurance this week, and broker says my insurer wouldn't cover food deliveries.

bet they would add it

at a cost

I wonder if you can get the insurance cover via the fleet policy of Deliveroo.

:-k

Was always assuming I'd be charged extra, but was told that they wouldn't cover it at all.

(Should have worded my earlier post differently - when they provided the quote I asked how much extra it would be to cover food deliveries, but was told that they couldn't be covered at all.)

this time last year all insurers were adding it

TBH I cant see how anyone would know, your vehicle is PH or HC, obviously plated, obviously insured

PC Plod is hardly likely to pull your signed up car when curry shops usually have son/wife/cousin in an old corsa with private insurance (ditto for parcel couriers, not just curry couriers)

If you get stopped (COB) its your curry, after a drop your empty...

the food cant drop you in the 5hit though a madras might

I think that was an ABI initiative at the height of lockdown, but I think that's all over now :-o

Association of British Insurers wrote:
"Insurers have committed to an additional pledge to support taxi and private hire drivers seeking alternative sources of income.

"If you are a licenced taxi or private hire driver and have hire or reward insurance in place, as of 8 April, you will not need to contact your insurer to extend your existing cover while driving this vehicle to carry parcels, medical supplies, household goods, groceries or takeaway meals during the Covid-19 restrictions.

"This commitment will be in place until the end of Covid-19 restrictions, or until 31 July 2020, whichever is sooner."

You're right that many would get away with it, but the other drivers here would know what I was doing (a lot of the Deliveroo pick-up points are close to where the HCs rank).

And if there was any incident then chances are it would come to light, particularly if it occurred during a pick-up or delivery...

So then it's driving without insurance, which obviously licensing councillors would be interested in.

So maybe better not to take the risk... 8-[

Too many food delivery drivers in my old area were also giving people lifts home for money, illegal private hires. they weren't even insured for food deliveries, let alone hire and reward.
