Who must be insured for a vehicle, the owner or the driver?

Can the V5 keeper state 2 individuals?

Quote:
You can insure a car that isn't registered to your name if you're the primary driver of the vehicle. You can't get someone else to insure your car (like mum, dad, or your partner) if you're the main driver.

Interested to see what the difference is between being a main driver and being a primary driver.

That said I've never been able to insure a car I don't own.

Another conundrum...

Self drive hire (i.e. Enterprise) on a car is 1 thing but a taxi base can insure a taxi/PH and rent it to a "self employed" driver ad-hoc, is that not "self drive hire" too?

Collingwood insure drivers who do not own the vehicle.

The V5 can indeed have a partnership of 2 or more people as registered keeper. It is their joint liability to ensure the vehicle is insured, and the driver is insured to drive it.

I've insured several cars I didn't own, they were on finance or lease. The finance company owned them and was the registered keeper, but I had to make sure they were continuously insured.

On every car we have had on finance it has been one of the directors and the company who are the registered keepers. The finance company is not listed.
