I have been asked by our licensing team for any information from drivers in areas that have 1 and 2 year licenses as to how much they cost relative to the full price of a 3 year license. They are looking at ways to encourage new drivers to the trade. |

In Fife we have option of 1 and 3 year badges. 1 year - £65 3 years - £160 So the three-year badge is almost 2.5 times the cost of the one-year option. Wouldn't be surprised if that kind of ratio is fairly typical, at least from the fees I've seen over the years. |

Ours in Fife are very straightforward, though, and here's a few others I found earlier via Google: (No difference in Fife between grants and renewals, and the fees are inclusive of disclosure/vetting checks and the short training course for new grants (which I think basically entails attending a lecture for a couple of hours).) First figure is 1 year, second is 3 year. Ashford £72/£149 Didn't think many would offer 2 *and* 3 year options, but there's always one: Durham £72.5/£127/£184 But it's not that straightforward, because there's often a difference between grant and renewal costs, for obvious reasons. And one I found offered a one-year badge for grants, but three-year only for renewals, as far as I could make out. Trafford is interesting in that it's got quite straightforward 1/2/3 year fees which differ greatly for grants and renewals, and that's because the grants include the cost of a training course and DBS. Grant: £298.50 (1 year) Grant: £363.00 (2 years) Grant: £428.00 (3 years) Renewal: £85 (1 year) Renewal: £149 (2 years) Renewal: £214 (3 years) So note that although the 3-year renewal is about 2.5x the cost of the 1-year renewal, there's not nearly so much of a gap for the grants, because the grant fee is distorted by the high cost of the training course in particular (£124), which will be the same whatever duration of a badge is applied for ![]() https://www.trafford.gov.uk/business/li ... arges.aspx |

But plenty easily found via Google, but it easily becomes a bit of a rabbit hole ![]() Don't know if this link will work: https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... cence+fees But the top result - Edinburgh - shows what a minefield comparing fees can be, potentially. So Edinburgh only seems to offer a 1 year badge for new grants, which includes a topo test, and costs £200. For renewals, it's: 1 year - £122 3 year - £187 So the three year renewal only 1.52x the cost of the one year renewal ![]() https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/ ... cence-fees And although PHD renewals are the same as for HCDs, a new PHD badge is £164 for one year only, thus cheaper than the new HCD (£200), presumably because there's no topo test ![]() |

In B&H it's basically the same price per year, but the council officials really only like three year licenses. https://present.brighton-hove.gov.uk/do ... 0n%201.pdf |

Well the honest answer is I haven't got a f***ing clue, but I've never made an issue of it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
