Our Council removed the requirement to carry a fire extinguisher a while ago now. The County Council have recently been carrying out vehicle inspections at schools and have written to us, and other transport providers from our Borough, telling us that it is a contract requirement that we carry a fire extinguisher whilst on school contracts. however they will not tell me what type or size that we have to carry. they have just said that the contract states that we must "carry a fire extinguisher in accordance with current guidelines of the health and safety executive. See www.hse.gov.uk I have tried to find specific guidance on the website but I can't find anything specific to Hackney Carriages or Private Hire vehicles. I have asked them to point me to the specific part or just tell me what i am supposed to be carrying. Any one know where to find the specific HSE guidanace? |

"What steps would you take if your vehicle burst int0 flames?" Fecking great big long ones Why insist on taxis having to CARRY a fire extinguisher (or first aid kit) when they cant insist you use it? |

The latest draft DfT Best Practise Guidance has this little interesting nugget in. Emergency equipment 8.19 The National Fire Chief Council (NFCC) recommend that licensing authorities require fire extinguishers to be provided in vehicles, should ensure that suitable and sufficient training is received by the drivers. 8.20 The NFCC’s advice is that if a licensing authority elects not to require drivers to undertake training on the safe way to tackle a vehicle fire, vehicles should not be required to carry fire extinguishers and drivers advised to get out and stay out of the vehicle and call 999, rather than attempting to firefight. The first bit is badly worded, but in essence, the top fire safety people say councils should ensure drivers are suitably trained if it's a licensing requirement. But more importantly in your case, they say that untrained drivers should get out and not attempt to firefight. So ask your County Council why they think the NFCC are wrong. |

No answer as the 3 would fill what little space there was in the boot. The "big steps" is the best answer. An electric car goes up, take big steps VERY quickly! |

Have a look online to see what happens when battery buses catch fire. Be brave, run away! A few months ago where my partner works cleaning buses, one of theirs self-ignited one evening. Fire brigade attended within 5 minutes, but was completely gone within 15 minutes. That was a traditional diesel bus. Cause of fire was battery leads chaffed through where they pass through rear wheel arch. |

The Green Plate mark is worn as a badge of honour for our greener friends and gives them some solice over the huge increase in the price of Electricity just as Petrol and Diesel prices are coming down. |
